Call for Abstracts

We invite you to submit an abstract submission for the Oceania Tobacco Control Conference (OTCC) 2027, taking place from 10 - 12 March 2027 at the Adelaide Convention Centre, South Australia.

OTCC 2027 will bring together researchers, practitioners, policymakers, advocates and community leaders from across Oceania and beyond to share the latest evidence, initiatives and innovations in tobacco control.

We welcome submissions across research, policy, advocacy, education, cessation and community practice.

Presentation Types

Oral Presentation*

Research, policy or advocacy presentations delivered within the scientific program.

Poster Presentation*

Visual presentations showcasing research studies, programs or initiatives.

Panel Presentation

Interactive discussions featuring multiple speakers exploring key issues, perspectives and innovations in tobacco control.

Workshop Presentation

Interactive sessions focused on practical learning, collaboration and discussion.

*Note that for the Oral and Poster presentations can submit two types of abstracts:

  • Research study: Describing the collection, analysis and interpretation of tobacco control research studies.
  • Program, policy or advocacy report: Describing the latest programs, policy or advocacy action.

Eligibility

  • Original work not previously published or presented.
  • Work must be completed or substantially advanced by the submission deadline.
  • Submitted abstracts will be peer-reviewed.

Information Required

As part of your abstract submission, you will need to include the following information:

  • Abstract title (max. 30 words). Titles must be concise, descriptive and free of abbreviations.
  • Theme that your abstract aligns with (please see below).
  • Author information: Please provide the full names and surnames, and affiliation(s) of each author.
  • Abstract text (max. 300 words).
  • References should not be included.
  • Standard abbreviations must be spelled out at first use.
  • Language: All submissions and presentations must be in English.
  • Conflict of interest declaration
  • The abstracts should be structured under the headings below.

Review Criteria

All abstract submissions will undergo a blind peer-review process using standardised criteria. Each abstract will be reviewed by at least two reviewers with expertise in the relevant field. The Scientific Committee will make the final decisions based on reviewer recommendations and program balance.

  • Research merit and rigour, and/or educational value.
  • Originality and significance.
  • Results and data quality.
  • Relevance to the conference themes.
  • Clarity of communication.
  • Suitability for format.

Following the review process, some changes to the submitted abstracts may be requested. These will be communicated to the corresponding/presenting author.

Terms and Conditions

  • All authors approve the submission of this abstract for consideration in the OTCC 2027 program.
  • The submitting author confirms that all information provided within the submission is accurate and has been approved by all co-authors.
  • Abstract submissions must be received by the advertised submission deadline, Tuesday 1 September 2026. OTCC 2027 reserves the right to decline late submissions.
  • The presenting author agrees to be available to present the abstract at OTCC 2027 if selected for inclusion in the program.
  • Presenting authors acknowledge that registration and payment of the applicable registration fee is required to be included in the final program. All authors must register by Friday 30 October 2026.
  • The presenting author agrees to immediately notify the Conference Secretariat of any changes to the presenting author, author list or withdrawal of the abstract.
  • Submission of an abstract constitutes consent for the abstract, author details and biography to be published in conference materials, including but not limited to the conference website, mobile app, program and abstract proceedings.
  • Authors agree that presentations will be materially consistent with the content submitted in the accepted abstract.
  • Authors warrant that the submitted work is original and does not infringe upon any copyright, intellectual property or other rights of any third party.
  • Authors grant OTCC 2027 and the Conference Organisers permission to publish, reproduce and distribute the abstract content for conference-related purposes.
  • Abstracts must comply with the submission guidelines, including word limits, formatting requirements and the use of appropriate headings. Tables, figures and images are not permitted.
  • OTCC 2027 reserves the right to reject or remove any submission that does not comply with the submission guidelines or Terms and Conditions.
