Created by Eastern Arrernte artist Pat Caruso, the artwork reflects the coming together of communities, researchers, advocates, health professionals and leaders from across Oceania to create healthier futures through collaboration, cultural knowledge and shared purpose.
Developed specifically for OTCC 2027, the artwork will feature throughout the conference experience, including the website, conference materials, signage and delegate resources. It serves as a visual reminder that meaningful change is achieved through connection, listening and collective action.
About the Artist
Pat Caruso
Eastern Arrernte Artist
Pat is a First Nations artist with Eastern Arrernte heritage. His artwork is shaped by culture, connection and more than 20 years of reconnecting with his family history and Country. Through his work, Pat aims to create meaningful impact by sharing stories, building understanding and bringing people together.
About the Artwork
This artwork is a celebration of collective strength, cultural knowledge, and the shared vision for healthier futures across Oceania. It reflects the coming together of communities, leaders, researchers, advocates, and health professionals united through a commitment to creating meaningful and lasting change.
At the heart of the piece are three central gathering circles representing the themes of Evidence, Impact, and Possibility. Together, they symbolise not only the foundation of the conference, but the ongoing evolution of knowledge, leadership, and community driven action.
Evidence
honours the wisdom carried through generations and strengthened through lived experience, research, storytelling, and cultural knowledge. It acknowledges the work already undertaken by communities and leaders across Oceania, recognising that every step forward is built upon the resilience, advocacy, and courage of those who came before.
Impact
represents the power of collaboration in action. The interconnected pathways and layered patterns flowing throughout the artwork symbolise partnerships between multiple stakeholders, communities, and organisations working together toward a common purpose. These connections reflect the programs, conversations, and initiatives already making a difference in the lives of people and communities across the region.
Possibility
looks toward the future with hope and determination. It symbolises empowerment, innovation, and the opportunity to create transformational change for generations to come. The outward movement of the artwork reflects momentum, the idea that when knowledge is shared and communities are empowered, new pathways emerge and stronger futures become possible.
The flowing forms throughout the artwork represent the movement of ideas, stories, and shared learning across the three-day gathering. Knowledge is not static; it grows, evolves, and strengthens through connection. The visual language pays homage to the past while embracing the future, acknowledging that cultural wisdom and contemporary leadership together create the foundation for sustainable change.
Meeting places woven throughout the composition represent spaces of cultural safety, dialogue, reflection, and unity. They symbolise the importance of gathering together to listen, learn, and shape solutions collectively.
Logo Colour Palette
The colour palette draws inspiration from Sunrise. A symbol of renewal, optimism, and a new beginning. The vibrant complementary tones reflect hope, healing, resilience, and the energy of communities across Oceania stepping forward together with purpose and vision.
Ultimately, this artwork is a reflection of collective aspiration. It speaks to a future where communities are empowered, programs are culturally grounded and effective, and the voices and leadership of First Nations peoples continue to guide meaningful change across Oceania.
